Which masking tapes are best for corners?

When working with different types of masking tapes, you’ll notice there is a difference in paper or backing materials. Not just in color, but in thickness and ease of use. 


In tape terms, conformability, or flexibility of the material to different surfaces and shapes, comes from the backing material, while cornering is a combination of the backing and adhesive system.


For standard painting applications where corners are present, general purpose masking tapes like BT-190 or BT-1008 offer conformable paper backing.


Some of our most conformable masking tapes include BT-7051 Ultra Violet™ and BT-7061 Killer Bee®. Due to the washi paper backing, these products are exceptionally conformable and preferred for a variety of different critical painting and surface protection applications.


For example, Ultra Violet™ excels in masking plastic automotive parts and EPDM rubber moldings with a number of cornering and conformability requirements.
