What is VHB?

Have you heard the term VHB? Developed in 1980 by our partners at 3M, VHB stands for Very High Bond.

What is VHB?

True to its name, VHB or Very High Bond is engineered for exceptionally high bonding strength. The 3M VHB Tapes are a family of double-sided foam tapes, each with their own unique core construction. Designed for permanent bonding applications, 3M VHB can replace traditional mechanical fasteners and liquid adhesives.

Thanks to their elastic properties, VHB tapes absorb dynamic loads and accommodate differential expansion between surfaces. This opens the door to using thinner, lighter weight and dissimilar materials while offering a range of bonding solutions to meet your customer’s needs. 3M VHB also reduces labor and material finishing steps commonly associated with spot and stich welding.

What challenges can VHB solve?

  • Compromised aesthetics
  • Excessive noise and vibration
  • Need to refinish or rework parts due to welding and distortion
  • Scarcity of qualified welders

3M VHB tape has been used in critical applications for 40 years. Ask our Application Specialist team for more information!
