What’s the difference between a 7 mil and an 11 mil duct tape?
The biggest differences between duct tape grades is usually in the tensile strength and adhesive coat weight. If you need more strength you would go higher in tensile strength, which generally means a thicker grade of duct tape. If you need a higher tack for a better bond, you would look at a product with a higher adhesive coat weight.
The other main consideration would be clean removal requirements. We have clean removal UV resistant products, as well as heavy-duty products for demanding construction applications!
7 mil – Utility Grade Lightweight Applications
For lightweight applications, our Application Specialists suggest BT-198.
9 mil – Standard Requirements
Our Application Specialists recommend BT-257 for 9 mil Standard Requirements and BT-284 for 9 mil High Tack Construction Requirements.
11 mil – Heavy Duty Applications
BT-258 is the product of choice for 11 mil Heavy Duty Applications.
17 mil - BluOx Tape®
BluOx Tape® is overengineered for most standard applications, making it ideal for heavy duty, long term repairs.
