If you go back 10-15 years, pool plasterers were predominantly using duct tapes to hold plastic sheeting. Over the course of the years and through the evolution of tape, we now have polyethylene (poly) tapes entering construction markets.

Now, many pool plasterers and gunite contractors find poly tapes the preferred product.

Poly Tape Applications

Visqueen (plastic sheeting) protects equipment, finished areas, and other things that plasterers would not want to get overspray on.

Poly tapes stick better to Visqueen than some duct tapes do, making poly tapes a preferred product for taping together plastic sheeting.

Poly tapes can also be used to tape up bags or plastic sheeting when pool plasterers are done with the job and pulling the bundle of garbage together.

Where available, poly tapes can also be used to create clean lines and racing stripes in commercial pools (or other places where lane marking is necessary). BT-4010 can be slit to any width desired, including the common 11 IN size. This width makes it easy for the contractor to lay down on strip to mask off the desired area.

Poly tapes can also be used in the gunite market. Gunite is typically for new pool construction, while pool plastering could be for new construction or the resurfacing of an existing pool.

Poly Tape Products

In the industry, we might sell both a red and a white poly tape.

The red BT-4014 product might be used for taping bags or securing the arms and legs of protective suits. Whereas the BT-4010 might be secured to finished surfaces requiring a clean removal.

The two-color system can be used to alert workers of sensitive areas based on color. The same strategy can be applied with various colors of duct tape.

Other Pool Plastering Products

Depending on where the pool is placed in the yard or in proximity to the house, pool plasterers might prefer a masking tape or Clean Green® to attach plastic sheeting to more sensitive surfaces; i.e. gazebo or posts.

Geographical weather can affect product performance, some products perform better than others in adverse conditions, like temperature or intense humidity.
