Removing unwanted adhesive residue left behind from posters, signage, or pictures can be a hassle. It’s a common issue and there are a few different ways you can go about removing the residue, depending on your surface and the resources you have available.
Here are three effective methods for cleaning left over residue from your surfaces:
- Rubbing Alcohol or Nail Polish Remover: Before using this method, ensure the surface is compatible with the chemical properties of your solution to avoid causing damage. Once you’ve done this, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover to a clean cloth or cotton ball. Gently dab or rub the residue until it begins to dissolve or loosen. Wipe away the residue with a clean, damp cloth afterward.
- Commercial Adhesive Removers: For a significant amount of residue, there are specific adhesive removers available that can effectively remove adhesive residue. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and test on a small area first to ensure compatibility with the surface before proceeding.
- Heat and Peel: Use a hairdryer or a heat gun to gently warm the residue. This softens the adhesive, making it easier to peel off. Start by heating the residue and then slowly peel it away. Be cautious not to damage the wall or surface.
In order to avoid unwanted residue in the future, check to make sure you’re using the right product for your application and understand any clean removal requirements!
