If you are a DIY Master, Crafter, or Creative Engineer – you have many tools that help you succeed. In our toolbox, we have tape! Tape can be used in a wide variety of projects to elevate your overall quality and save time.
In this blog, we’re going to talk about tape used in making tumblers and how our products can make a difference. Let’s start with a few ways to decorate tumblers:
- Vinyl or Stickers
- Epoxy
- Sublimation
Vinyl or Stickers can be added to tumblers to create a personalized touch. A helpful tape to use in this application is BT-1018 Masking Tape. While the name may suggest otherwise, there are conformable and easy-tear characteristics that are beneficial. You can use a piece to stick, in this instance, a bear decal onto the tumbler to determine placement. The easy release will not leave any residue behind.
Epoxy tumblers are popular to create a handmade design with alcohol inks, glitter, and paint. Depending on the tumbler design you’ll want to keep a clean rim around the tumbler. Clean Green® is an excellent choice as the liquids do not seep into the tape and the product provides a residue free clean removal.
For alcohol paints and glitter that is being sealed, Clean Green® provides a hard barrier between the liquid and rim. The main benefit is that there will be no clean-up involved. The edges are protected throughout the whole process while providing a clean, crisp edge.
If you used a regular masking tape for the epoxy process, the epoxy may leave residue on the stainless metal because it seeps through the thin material. In addition, the epoxy can adhere to the tumbler and tape causing for uneven lines upon removal and tape left stuck in the epoxy before it has hardened. Clean Green® does not leave a residue behind and does not bond to the epoxy.
Sublimation is a unique way to decorate tumblers as you can put a graphic image or design onto the tumbler with no texture or lines and provides a clean look. Sublimation begins with a printed decal that is in transferred to the tumbler using heat or a bake cycle process. As seen below, it is essential to secure the design firmly to the tumbler. This ensures all color will transfer evenly.
BT-908 is our Specialty High Temperature Pink Masking Tape which is an ideal choice to secure the design during the heat cycle. With a temperature resistance of 325°F, the design will stay firmly in place and the tape will not flake during the cycle.
