Problem: Product Not Being Held in Place
Solution: Utilizing Strong, Non-Tearable Adhesive Tape
Material: Mesh Tape
Results: Reduced labor and time, increased efficiency and functionality.
Backstory
A customer was previously placing magnets in a foam material which had a hole cut through for the magnet to sit in. These magnets needed to be held in place from both sides of the material, so the customer was sewing fabric on each side to secure the product.
However, this proved to be unsuccessful, as the sewed fabric was difficult to secure in place when sewing. In addition, the customer could not see where the magnet was when sewing because of the opaque fabric. This resulted in time and material wasted, as needles and magnets were breaking because of the fabric visibility.
Thankfully, the story doesn’t end there thanks to an Application Specialist who discovered a solution.
The Results
Several tapes were tested for this application, but most would tear along the seam when being sewn causing the magnet to move out of the pocket. Nevertheless, a mesh tape was the ideal solution due to its strong adhesion. The tape adhesive was not only strong enough to keep the magnet in place during the sewing process, but also did not tear because of its sturdy woven mesh.
Once getting help from an Application Specialist to develop a custom solution, the customer was able to significantly reduce labor, time, and material wasted. Additionally, there was a boost in production efficiency as magnets were being secured in place.
