Have you ever been asked for a “bond breaker” tape? While the term bond breaker can apply to multiple products, we’re sharing our recommendation along with some more information about bond breaker applications.
What does bond breaker mean?
The term “bond breaker” refers to a separation where two materials meet, breaking the bond.
What kinds of tapes are used for bond breaker applications?
The most common bond breaker tape is polyethylene tape. There are many different brands and options available, but a 9 mil polyethylene tape like BT-4016 Premium Grade Polyethylene Tape will do the trick. We offer BT-4016 on plastic cores to avoid water damage to the rolls on the job site.
What is bond breaker tape used for?
Bond breaker tape helps create separation by providing a physical barrier between two materials, while still allowing for movement. This is common in construction applications such as concrete joints, precast concrete, or curtain walls.
Other applications include decorative concrete and polyaspartic coatings to create a barrier between walls and the concrete surface, along grout lines, and along weatherproofing caulk lines.
What is the most common size for bond breaker tape?
While specific sizing depends on the application, the most common sizes for bond breaker tape are narrow widths from 1/8 inch to 2 inch.
